An Update of the Fila/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings
Georgia and Stanford both maintained their No. 1 rankings in men’s and women’s tennis, respectively. The Southeastern Conference Champion Bulldogs completed a perfect 23-0 regular season last weekend and will play in the SEC Tournament in Baton Rouge, La., this weekend as the top overall seed. The Cardinal currently own a 19-1 record and will close out their regular season against No. 9 California this weekend.
Following Georgia in the men’s top 10 are Virginia, Ohio State, Baylor, Notre Dame, North Carolina, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, USC and UCLA. Behind Stanford in the women’s top 10 are Notre Dame, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Northwestern, USC, California and North Carolina.
The only newcomer in the top 25 on either side was the VCU men’s squad, coming in at No. 24. On the other hand, several familiar faces have remained at the top. Georgia has held the No. 1 spot in every ranking period this year. On the women’s side, Stanford and Notre Dame held on to the top two spots for the fourth straight week. They also held the top two positions eight of the last nine regular season ranking periods last year.
The Atlantic Coast Conference and SEC tie for the most teams in the top 25 with 6 followed by the Bilg 10 and Big 12 with three apiece. The ACC places seven in the women’s top 25 followed by the SEC and Pac-10 with five.
