IN THE RANKS
An Update of the Fila/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings
Both Georgia’s men’s and women’s tennis teams stayed at No. 1 for the second straight week after becoming the first program to have both teams at the top for the first time since Georgia also earned the distinction April 27, 2002. The Georgia men (15-0) are one of two undefeated teams in Division I men’s tennis along with North Carolina while the Georgia women (12-0) are the only remaining unbeaten Division I women’s tennis team in the nation.
Following Georgia in this week's men's top 10 are Ohio State, Virginia, Baylor, Notre Dame, Illinois, Southern California, UCLA, Mississippi and LSU. No. 1 Georgia leads No. 2 Ohio State by nearly nine full points.
Behind Georgia in the women’s poll are Florida, Notre Dame, Stanford, California, Georgia Tech, Clemson, USC, Miami and Northwestern. The Georgia women also lead by a solid margin of almost eight points.
New to the top 25 for the men this week are Boise State (19), VCU (20) and N.C. State (21). For the women, Vanderbilt (18), Pepperdine (19) and Colorado (20) joined the top 25 this week after being outside in last week’s poll. UCLA’s women jumped all the way to 11th from 22nd after winning six of their last seven matches.
The Southeastern Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference tie for the most teams in the men’s top 25 with five each. The Big 10 and Big 12 follow with three apiece. The ACC leads in the women’s with seven, the Pac-10 has five and the SEC has four -- including both No. 1 and No. 2.
New singles and doubles rankings also were released this week. Georgia’s John Isner again claimed the top spot in singles and doubles along with partner Luis Flores. Miami’s Audra Cohen kept her No. 1 ranking on the women’s side as did William & Mary’s doubles tandem of Megan Moulton-Levy and Katarina Zoricic.
