Georgia Softball Posts Doubleheader Split in Hawaii

The Bulldogs pounded out eight runs and 10 hits in game one en route to an 8-0 win over the St. Mary’s Gaels (5-5). Oregon (16-1) extended its winning streak to 16 games with a 5-0 win over the Bulldogs in the second game of the twinbill.
Kasi Carroll (10-2) earned the win for the Bulldogs after hurling six scoreless frames, allowing only two hits while striking out four.
Charvi Greer paced Georgia with three hits in game one. Alison Horne turned in a 2-for-3 performance with a home run and two RBI against the Gaels while Melissa Wood contributed two hits and an RBI.
Alicia Ross (10-1) secured her ninth straight win in the circle for the Ducks in game two after hurling a one-hit shutout.
Georgia manufactured a run in the top of the first inning of game one to take an early 1-0 lead. Greer led off the frame with a single and stole second base. After advancing to third on a throwing error, Greer scored on an RBI fielder’s choice off the bat of Sojourner Moody.
The Bulldogs added three runs in the second inning to extend their lead to 4-0. Wood reached on a one-out single and advanced to third base on Horne’s double. Victoria Sanders plated Wood on an RBI single to center field. Greer moved Sanders to second with a single. Kellie Middleton drove in Sanders and Greer with a two-RBI single for the final two runs of the frame.
Georgia added three runs in the sixth inning on Horne’s two-run home run and Wood’s RBI single.
Kacey Coonce plated the final run of the game in the sixth inning after scoring Middleton on an RBI double.
Kate Gaskill threw a hitless third inning.
Kate Albaugh (1-1) took the loss for the Gaels after allowing seven earned runs and 10 hits in 7.0 innings.
Oregon took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning in game two on Ann Marie Topps’ solo home run to left center field.
The Ducks added two runs in the third inning on Neena Bryant’s RBI single and Lovena Chaput’s sacrifice fly.
Bryant extended Oregon’s lead to 5-0 in the fourth inning with a two-run home run to center field.
Gaskill (1-2) took the loss for Georgia after surrendering five earned runs and seven hits in 7.0 innings.
Georgia returns to action on Friday with a scheduled doubleheader against Kent State and Hawaii. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. EST.
