February 06, 2007 | General

ATHENS, Ga. --- Fourteen-time World and Reserve World Champion Erica Lang has joined the Georgia equestrian team and will begin competing for the Bulldogs this spring.

In addition to her 14 World and Reserve World titles, the Fairfax, California native was crowned All-American Quarter Horse Congress Champion. In 2004 and 2005, Lang and Georgia equestrian assistant coach Carly Veldman finished as the World and Reserve World Champions in Amateur Western Riding for the American Paint Horse Association.

“It is really awesome to have Erica on the team here at Georgia,” said Veldman. “She was one of my toughest competitors as an amateur, and I am absolutely honored to have her on our team. She has a lot of experience on a variety of horses and is looking forward to putting that into practice here for us. She will be a strong force in both the horsemanship and reining events.”

Spring competition picks up for the equestrian team Saturday, February 10, when it travels to Waco, Texas to take on the Baylor Bears at 10:30 a.m. (ET). Georgia came out on top in the last meeting between the two teams when it won the Bulldog Invitational in September with a final score of 9-6.
