Christy Marshall Named SEC Freshman Of The Week

Marshall, a 6-1, guard from Savannah, Ga., was tabbed for the second time this season. She also was chosen on Nov. 20 following wins over North Carolina A&T and Davidson. In addition, teammates Ashley Houts and Angel Robinson have won the accolade three and two times, respectively, giving Georgia honorees in seven of 15 weeks during the 2006-07 season.
Marshall scored nine first-half points at Kentucky and finished with 11. At Auburn, she scored eight of her 12 points in the second half, including a bucket which ended an 11-2 Auburn run and ignited a 10-0 Lady Bulldog surge which gave Georgia the lead for good.
Marshall has now reached double figures in each of the Lady Bulldogs' four games since she was inserted into the starting lineup at Alabama on Feb. 8. She has averaged 12.8 points per game during that span, up considerably from the 7.3 points she averaged in the first 24 games of the season.
The No. 11-ranked Lady Bulldogs improved to 23-5 overall and 10-3 in SEC play with their victories last week. Georgia also locked up at worst the No. 3 seed in next week's SEC Tournament in Duluth, Ga. Following an open date on Thursday, the Lady Bulldogs will host Arkansas in their regular-season finale this Sunday at 2:30 at Stegeman Coliseum. The first 1,500 fans will receive drawstring backpacks compliments of Red Baron Pizza.
Tickets for Sunday's game are $5 for adults and $3 for youth high school age and younger and on sale at the UGA Ticket office in the Butts-Mehre building from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. They also will be on sale at Stegeman Coliseum beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. UGA students are admitted to Lady Bulldog games for free with a valid UGA Card.
