February 16, 2007 | Equestrian

ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Georgia equestrian team announced the addition of Kylee Jo Johnson as interim assistant coach Friday. Johnson is on board to finish out what remains of the 2007 season.

“We are very excited to have Kylee join our staff,” said head coach Meghan Boenig. “We expect her expertise and knowledge over fences will help us out a lot. What I particularly admire about her is her ability to balance horses and schoolwork. I am looking forward to see what she’ll bring to our team.”

In December of 2006, Johnson graduated from the University of Florida with a Ph. D. in Equine Nutrition. She also completed her undergraduate work in Gainesville where she finished with a B. S. in Animal Biology. Throughout her years at the University of Florida, Johnson was honored with a number of academic distinctions including recommendation for The Chancellor’s List, the University of Florida Alumni Fellowship, University of Florida Presidential Recognition and the Undergraduate Academic Award from the American Society of Animal Science. In addition, she was a member of the Golden Key Honor Society, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and a member of the Dean’s List for all semesters.

While in school, Johnson gained valuable work experience in the horse industry. Most recently, she had been self-employed specializing in lessons, training hunter/jumpers and conducting clinics for area farms. Previously, Johnson served as manager and assistant trainer at Legacy Farms in Florida, a teaching assistant and graduate fellow at Florida and a student worker at Ri-Arms Farms.

To go with her impressive academic resume and work experience, Johnson also boasts a colorful list of equestrian achievements spanning over a decade that includes several Horse Shows in the Sun (HITS) Grand Prix first-place finishes. In addition, she received “Best of America’s Horse” awards four consecutive seasons as a junior and amateur rider.

“I am very excited to be a part of such a successful program and work with an incredibly enthusiastic group of people,” said Johnson. “This has been the most welcoming area I have ever lived in. I hope I will be able to contribute to the future of equestrian sports at UGA.”
