December 04, 2007 | Men's Basketball

ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia Bulldogs defeated the Augusta State Jaguars Monday night from the Stegeman Coliseum in Athens, Georgia. The game saw seven lead changes and the Division II Jaguars proved to be the Bulldogs’ toughest defeated opponent this season. The Jaguars had the lead going into the half and wrestled with the Bulldogs for that possession all evening.

Georgia guard Sundiata Gaines led all players in scoring with 24 points. He added four rebounds, four assists, and three steals in 35 minutes. Billy Humphrey added fifteen points and five rebounds, and Terrance Woodbury added eleven points and nine rebounds.

“Yata played big for us tonight,” said coach Dennis Felton, “especially in the second half. We decided at halftime that we could have some success by attacking their big guys on screens at the top of the key and allow Yata to get in the lane and do his thing. He had a wonderful all round game for us tonight.”

Australian native Ben Madgen scored 21 points for Augusta State. Daniel Dixon added 17, Tyrekus Bowman added 16, and Georgia native Garret Siler contributed for the Jaguars with 10 rebounds in addition to seven points. The win propels the Dogs to a 5-1 record.

Georgia takes on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons next on Saturday at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens. The game can be seen live on Fox Sports Net South and listened to on the Georgia Bulldogs Radio Network. Additional coverage can be found online on GXtra.
