ATHENS, Ga. --- University of Georgia equestrian coach Meghan Boenig announced on Monday that Katie Hagerty, one of the top young English riders and all-around athletes in the Northeast, has signed a national letter-of-intent to attend UGA and ride next year for the Bulldogs.
Hagerty is currently a senior at The Prout School in Wakefield, R.I., where she is an Honor Roll student and member of the National Honor Society. In her chosen sport, she owns a slew of recent honors, including a Top 25 showing at the US Equestrian Federation Medal Finals in 2006. She is also a winner in the medal finals at the Rhode Island Equitation Championships, as well as multiple ribbons at national circuit shows such as Maclay, Wellington and Saratoga.
“We’re very excited that Katie has decided to become a Bulldog,” Boenig said. “She is a unique equestrian athlete because she also competes for her high school track & field and soccer teams. She does all of that while maintaining excellent grades. It shows that Katie is a very dedicated and driven athlete with great time-management skills. We’re confident these traits will translate into success as a member of the Georgia Equestrian team.”
Hagerty is the third Hunt Seat specialist to join the Bulldogs for next year. Also signing with Georgia in the early signing period were Katie Brown of Batavia, Ill., and Emma Lipman of Bedford, N.Y.
