Athens Outtakes #15: 'Pink Eye' Greets End Of Finals Period

December 19, 2007 | Women's Basketball

Lady Bulldog freshman Angela Puleo is writing a weekly "Athens Outtakes" column for her hometown newspaper, The Daily Times in Maryville, Tenn., about the transition from high school to college and her experiences at the University of Georgia. Puleo became the 61st freshman to earn a starting spot with the Lady Bulldogs during Andy Landers tenure and the 21st to do so in their collegiate debut. Maryville also is the hometown of Landers, Georgia's Hall of Fame coach.

This is the fifteenth installment in the series.

It doesn't seem possible that I have completed one semester of college. I finished my finals on Tuesday and hopefully all went well.

My mind was full of American History, Physics, English, and Basketball (the last one deserves a capital letter, too, since it is pretty important in the scheme of things). It feels like a 20-pound weight has been lifted off my shoulder in terms of academics, but the basketball schedule continues. We have four more non-conference games and then we begin the SEC schedule with Ole Miss on January 10 in Athens.

I woke up Tuesday morning with two pink and runny eyes. I tried to convince my trainer and my mom that I had just put too many hours into studying, but they insisted that I go to the clinic and get checked. You guessed it - "Pink Eye" - in both eyes!

I have never worn my glasses so much in my life. The only time I have been allowed to wear my contacts is to practice. Dr. Spicer, how long do I have to wait before I can get that laser surgery?

I am coming home Thursday morning and it will be so nice to see my family and friends and just relax. As Dorothy would say, there really is "no place like home"; at least until December 26th and then I'll be ready to head to Miami for the Sun and Fun Classic.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year & Go Dawgs!
