Bulldogs, Harman Leading Brickyard Collegiate Championship

October 08, 2007 | Men's Golf

MACON, Ga. --- Paced by tournament leader Brian Harman, the third-ranked Georgia men’s golf team moved into first place on Monday at the inaugural Brickyard Collegiate Championship.

The Bulldogs fired a second-round 15-under-par 273 the sixth-best tally in school history for a two-day total of 25-under 551. Georgia is two shots better than Clemson’s 23-under 553.

Harman, a junior from Savannah, shot a 6-under 66 in the second round to go to 10-under 134. Harman is two shots ahead of Georgia teammate Harris English and Clemson’s Kyle Stanley at 8-under 136. Harman had two birdies and an eagle on three of his last four holes.

Junior Adam Mitchell and sophomore Hudson Swafford each recorded 4-under 68 figures for the Bulldogs. Freshman and Macon native Russell Henley added a 1-under 71. Junior Michael Green had the Bulldogs’ non-counting figure from the lineup at 2-over 74.

Also for the Bulldogs, English shot a 1-under 71 and sophomore Rob Bennett had a 5-under 67. English and Bennett are playing as individuals and do not count toward the team figure.

After Harman and English, Mitchell is fourth individually at 6-under 138, followed by Swafford in sixth at 5-under 139, Henley and Bennett in 10th at 4-under 140, and Green in 32nd at 2-over 146.

“I am still just so pleased with our consistency top to bottom,” Georgia coach Chris Haack said. “Having six guys in the top 10 and under par after two rounds is pretty satisfying to a coach. Those kinds of scores can win a lot of golf tournaments. We just need to keep it going for one more round.”

The 54-hole tournament will conclude on Tuesday. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
