October 24, 2007 | Women's Basketball

Athens, Ga. --- Georgia Lady Bulldogs Tasha Humphrey and Ashley Houts were named first- and second-team All-SEC, respectively, in pre-season balloting of leaguewide media, the Southeastern Conference announced on Wednesday. In addition, media tabbed the Lady Bulldogs to finish third in the league.

Humphrey, a 6-3, senior from Gainesville, Ga., has been a first-team All-SEC selection by both league coaches and media during each of her first three seasons at Georgia. She also has been named SEC Player of the Week seven times during her career, which is the most ever by a Georgia player and two shy or Armintie Prices league record. Among the Lady Bulldogs career leaders, Humphrey enters her final season at No. 9 in points, No. 10 in rebounds, field goals made and blocks, No. 4 in free throw makes and No. 8 in free throw attempts.

Houts, a 5-6, sophomore from Trenton, Ga., was named SEC Freshman of the Year and Freshman All-America last season. She was tabbed SEC Freshman of the Week four of the 16 times the honor was awarded during the 2006-07 season. Among SEC leaders for last season, Houts finished the year ranked No. 2 in minutes played, No. 3 in steals, No. 8 in assists and No. 9 in free throw percentage and No. 10 in assists-to-turnover ratio. She also broke the Lady Bulldog freshman record for steals with 93, topping the existing mark of 89 steals set by SEC career steals leader Sherill Baker.

Both Humphrey and Houts earned Gold Medals representing the U.S. at major international competitions last summer. Humphrey was the second-leading scorer for the U.S. National Team that won the Pan American Games for the first time in 20 years. Houts was the lone rising sophomore on the U.S. squad that won the U21 World Championships.

Tennessee was picked to repeat as SEC Champions by the media, followed by LSU, the Lady Bulldogs, Vanderbilt, Auburn, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Florida, South Carolina and Alabama.

Two media representatives from each of the 12 conference schools and six additional national writers comprised the voting panel for the pre-season honors and rankings.

The Lady Bulldogs have been a consensus pre-season top-10 pick and will open their 2007-08 campaign in just over two weeks against Richmond. Georgia will take on the Spiders on Friday, Nov. 9, at 6:30 p.m. at Stegeman Coliseum.
