NACOGDOCHES, Texas --- Georgia gained a split in its two-day tour of Texas by posting an impressive 12-4 victory over Stephen F. Austin here Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs won by taking wins in three of the four events and tying the Lumberjacks 2-2 in the remaining event, Reining. On Saturday, Georgia had dropped a close 12-9 margin in a loss at Texas A&M.
Against Stephen F. Austin, two Georgia freshmen, Diandra St. Hilaire in Reining and Kacy Jenkins in English Equitation over Fences, took MVP honors, as did sophomore Haylie Jayne in Equitation on the Flat. Georgia claimed seven of a possible eight points in the English discipline, sweeping all four Flat rides. Jayne continued her strong fall season by carding an 11-point victory margin in her Flat ride with a score of 67. She also took a 73-67 win in the Fences event.
It was Jenkins, however, who drew the most praise from head coach Meghan Boenig. The Potomac Falls, Va., native scored the biggest victory margin of the day, 78-35, in the Fences competition.
“I was really proud of the way Kacy came through on what turned out to be a very challenging horse,” Boenig said. “Overall, it was a very good day for us, and I was happy with the way we bounced back from Saturday.”
The Bulldogs also took five of the eight possible points in the Western events.
Georgia resumes its fall season in two weeks when the Bulldogs face South Carolina in Columbia on Saturday, Nov. 3. Their next home competition will come Sunday, Nov. 11 against Auburn.
