September 23, 1950 - Under the coaching of 'little round man' Wallace Butts, the UGA football team defeated the #15 ranked Maryland Terrapins 27-7 in Athens.

September 23, 2003 - Assistant football coach Rodney Garner one of 20 ethnic minority football coaches chosen to participate in the first NCAA Advanced Coaching Program, which is a component of the recently created NCAA Coaches Academy.

September 23, 2006 - Georgia’s freshman quarterback Joe Cox came off the bench late in the third quarter with his team trailing Colorado 13-0 and led his team to a 14-13 victory. He showed incredible poise by throwing two clutch touchdown passes in the fourth quarter, the second of which earned Georgia a “Pontiac Game Changing Performance” nomination. With only 46 seconds left on the clock, Georgia still down 13 -7, Cox found tight end Martrez Milner with a 20-yard pass into the end zone, setting up the game-winning extra point and saving the game for the Bulldogs.
