September 17, 1966 - In the season opener in Jackson, All-SEC kicker Bobby Etter nailed a 19-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter to give Georgia a narrow 20-17 win over Mississippi State.

September 17, 1988 - Helping the seventh-ranked UGA football team avoid an upset, All-American tailback Tim Worley ran a 26-yard touchdown with 17 seconds remaining to hold off Mississippi State, 42-35. Worley finished the day with 162 yards rushing and 4 touchdowns.

September 17, 2003 - QB David Greene one of 11 players named to AFCA National Good Works Team for outstanding contributions to community service.

September 17, 2004 - Georgia swimmer Julie Hardt named one of 10 finalists for NCAA Woman of the Year.
