ATHENS, Ga. --- The 2006 edition of the Georgia Bulldogs completed their first session of two-a-day practices Thursday when Joe Tereshinski tossed a 12-yard touchdown pass to Mohamed Massaquoi.

"It was a good finish to practice," said Georgia coach Mark Richt. "It was about as spirited as you would hope for being the first day of two-a-days."

Georgia's two-hour morning workout featured the first one in full pads of the preseason while the Bulldogs scaled back the afternoon session, going slightly more than an hour in helmets, shells and shorts.

"We had some possible weather coming in so we skipped a few things and got right in to our situational drills, kicking, third and long, third and medium and then finished with our one-minute drill."

The number one defense stopped the number two offense during the one-minute drill while the number one offense scored the aforementioned touchdown on the number two defense to cap the day's action.

When asked about the freshmen's first day in full pads, Richt said they did "okay" although their heads were spinning a bit. He added it's hard for the freshmen to play fast until they understand what they are doing out there and how to play under control.

When the subject turned to the running backs, Richt mentioned every one of them enjoyed a solid day, highlighted by the physical play of junior Danny Ware on inside runs.

Also, Richt provided an update on a handful of injured Bulldogs. Senior defensive tackle Ray Gant (shoulder), junior guard Chester Adams (hip pointer), senior defensive tackle Marquis Elmore (knee) and sophomore fullback Brannan Southerland (ankle) missed portions of or all of Thursday's practice. Georgia will practice once on Friday and have another two-a-day session on Saturday.

The Bulldogs are ranked No. 14 in the USA Today Preseason Coaches Poll. Georgia will open the season Sept. 2 at home against Western Kentucky. Kickoff is slated for 12:30 p.m., and the game will be televised by Lincoln Financial Sports.
