SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Georgia head coach Wayne Norton announced that the Bulldogs picked up another pair of signees for the 2006-07 season after Brittney Robbins (Decatur) and Gordon Ritchie-Haughton (Stone Mountain) turned in their National Letters of Intent.
Another Bulldog signee - Caleb Vogt (Winter Park, Fla.) - also recently recorded a win in the 3000-meter run. Vogt, who turned in his NLI to the Bulldogs in the fall, won the Golden South Classic in Orlando, Fla., on Saturday, June 3. Vogt, who was teammates at Winter Park High School with current Georgia distance runner freshman Coleman Hoover, clocked a personal-best 8:46.13 to take first place.
Georgia's newest signees are both products from Georgia high schools. While Robbins attended Southwest DeKalb High School, Haughton suited up for Stephenson High School.
Robbins is the fifth-ranked triple jumper in the state after winning the Morehouse Relays with a mark of 38 feet, 6.50 inches. In addition, Robbins has a personal-best time of 44.22 in the 300-meter low hurdles and she also competes in the 400.
"Brittney is a multi-talented athlete who comes from a supportive family and a good high school track program," Norton said. "With her background and her diligent work habits, she should develop into a major contributor to our SEC champion women's team. Her signing represents success in one of our main goals which is to give an opportunity to the good Atlanta area athletes to stay in the state and attend UGA. It is important that these student-athletes understand that UGA is a major, quality academic/athletic institution that wants and welcomes them."
Georgia also recently added Haughton to its roster. Haughton is ranked fifth in the state in the 400 after winning the Dekalb County Track Championship with a time of 48.33. He has also clocked a 38.10 in the 300 intermediate hurdles while taking first at the Stephenson Invitational.
