Coming Soon: NEW Practice Gym
The University of Georgia Athletic Association has sent out bids for the construction of a new Coliseum Practice Annex located adjacent to Stegeman Coliseum. The construction plans to relocate the Olympic Gym currently at Ramsey this winter and to then begin construction in January 2006. The project will hopefully be completed by May 2007.
This new practice facility will be shared with the men's and women's basketball programs, with gymnastics occupying the entire first floor, along with a brand new Strength and Conditioning Weight Room for Olympic Sports, and the men's and women's basketball programs occupying the second floor. For gymnastics, the new practice area will be twice as large as the practice area at the Ramsey Center. There will be three vaulting stations, four balance beams with ample space for mounting and dismounting, three sets of bars, an in-ground trampoline and tramp bar, a trench bar, a tumbling area, and a practice area for floor routines that does not overlap with the other areas.
In addition, there will be a fully furnished training room with weights and training apparatus that will be for the exclusive use of the Gym Dogs. There will also be video equipment installed at the beam, vault, bars, and floor stations, along with a video room where the coaches and athletes will be able to view their routines. The Gym Dogs will have a new locker room in the pracitce annex, a spacious training room for taping, treatments, physical therapy, and massage. Coaches and staff will be housed in new offices with a reception area. Visitors can view the entire first floor practice area from a balcony on the second floor. Once it's completed, this practice facility will be second to none!
