Indoor Practice Facility

The University of Georgia Athletic Board authorized design and construction phases for a new indoor practice facility in May of 1999.

The new building will provide an indoor practice facility for football, a practice and competition arena for track and field, and potentially a practice area for other Olympic sports.

This 120,000 square foot facility will serve as a inclement weather facility for all sports and an off-season training site as well. It will consist of a full-length, artificial turf practice football field, encircled by a regulation indoor track. Our men's and women's indoor track teams will compete in this facility giving us one of the few competition facilities for indoor track and field in the Southeast. A set of permanent bleachers with a capacity to seat 1,000 people will be added to the facility for spectators to watch indoor track meets and invited guests to watch other practice sessions.

Set within the confines of the Butts-Mehre football practice complex, this facility will be situated conveniently for access by Georgia's varsity student-athletes for practice and competition.

Located next to the Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall, the facility will extend down to the lower football practice fields and will reach from Rutherford Street to the perimeter of one of the three remaining outdoor practice fields. The football field next to the proposed facility will run in a North-South direction, while the other two lower fields will run from east to west.

The building will be accessible via a Rutherford Street entrance (click here for a map of the facility in regards to the rest of campus), where a Hall of Fame Walk or pedestrian promenade with limited vehicular access is planned. Student-athletes will be able to access the facility from the Butts-Mehre building directly.
