Juco Forward Signs with Bulldogs
April 19, 2006 | Men's Basketball
ATHENS, Ga. ---- University of Georgia basketball coach Dennis Felton today announced that forward Takais Brown from Flint, Mich., has signed a national letter-of-intent during the spring signing period to play basketball next season for the Bulldogs.
Brown, at 6-8, 245 pounds, is regarded among the top junior-college prospects in the country. He is currently finishing his second year at Southeastern Illinois College in Harrisburg, Ill. In his sophomore season there, Brown averaged 19.3 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per contest. The Falcons went 25-8 in 2006 and reached the regional finals of the NJCAA national tournament.
"We are very pleased that Takais has joined our program," Felton said.
"Takais is a strong, powerful post player who has been taught and coached very well the past two years by coach Todd Franklin at SIC. He helps us in the areas of strength and athleticism and should really contribute to our scoring and rebounding production in the frontcourt."
After this past season Brown was named to the NJCAA All-America third team. He is also rated the No. 6 prospect nationally among all junior-college players.
Brown is the second prospect of the 2005-06 class to sign with Georgia. Last November, 6-10 forward Albert Jackson of Earlington, Ky., and Oak Hill (Va.) Academy, also signed a letter-of-intent to attend UGA.
The spring signing period for basketball concludes May 17.
