ATHENS, Ga.---Georgia closed out its regular season with a 74-57 loss to Arkansas at Stegeman Coliseum on Sunday afternoon. Freshman Billy Humphrey, who finished with 10 points, was the only Bulldog in double figures.
The Bulldogs (15-14, 5-11), who are the sixth-place team from the Southeastern Conference's Eastern Division, are now scheduled for a rematch with the Razorbacks in the first round of the SEC Tournament in Nashville, Tenn., on Thursday. Following Sunday's game, Georgia head coach Dennis Felton said his team was not as lively as he would have hoped for their final home game.
"We never were as aggressive as I had hoped today," Felton said. "We were just not playing with as much energy as I would have liked."
The Bulldogs, who were down 38-30 at the break, traded baskets with Arkansas to start the second half, but the Razorbacks (21-8, 10-6) then ripped off a 10-0 run and never allowed Georgia back in the game. Helping the Razorbacks' effort was the fact that they turned the ball over just six times compared to Georgia's 16 for the game.
Georgia only trailed Arkansas by eight points in the first half after shooting just below 43 percent from the field. Although the Razorbacks scored the first two points of the game, the Bulldogs went on a 7-0 run to take an early lead in the contest before Arkansas increased its lead to as many as 12 in the opening period.
The Bulldogs' second-leading scorers were sophomore Sundiata Gaines and junior Steve Newman, who both contributed 9 points each. For Arkansas, junior Ronnie Brewer recorded a game-high 25 points and three steals and sophomore Charles Thomas added 15 points to go along with 15 rebounds.
