Four Former Bulldogs Honored By Israeli Consulate

ATLANTA, Ga. --- Four former University of Georgia basketball players who played professionally in Israel were recently honored by the Israeli Consulate to the Southeast for their devoted service to athletics in the region.
Terry Fair (Macon, Ga.), Lamar Heard (Cartersville, Ga.), LaVon Mercer (Metter, Ga.) and Dennis Williams (Charleston, S.C.) were four of seven individuals recognized by Israeli Deputy Consul General Aviv Ezra during halftime of the game between the Atlanta Hawks and the Indiana Pacers in Philips Arena on Wednesday, March 29th.
During their careers in Israel, Mercer was a member of the European champions Maccabi Tel Aviv as well as Hapoel Tel Aviv, Fair and Williams played on Hapoel Tel Aviv and Heard suited up with Hapoel Jerusalem. Ezra also made all four official goodwill ambassadors for the State of Israel during the presentation.
Fair and Heard, who both lettered from 1980-83, were co-captains on the 1983 team that knocked off both highly-favored St. John's and North Carolina on its way to the NCAA Final Four. Mercer was a co-captain for the Bulldogs and lettered from 1977-80 while Williams took the court inside Stegeman Coliseum from 1984-87.
