ATHENS, Ga. --- Alabama took advantage of a couple of Georgia errors and two wild pitches in a three-run seventh to defeat the 20th-ranked Bulldogs 5-3 Saturday at Foley Field.
The Crimson Tide (16-6, 2-0 SEC) broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh to hand the Bulldogs their second straight loss as they fall to 13-4 overall, 0-2 in the SEC.
In the seventh, Greg Paiml reached on an error by Georgia first baseman Josh Morris who went for the tag out but had the ball knocked loose by Paiml. Salem followed and was hit by a pitch. A wild pitch by Adam McDaniel and a throwing error by Bulldog catcher Jason Jacobs allowed the runners to move up two bases apiece with Pamil scoring to make it 3-2. Also in the inning, Evan Bush (3-for-4, 1 RBI) would add a run-scoring single and later score on another wild pitch for a 5-2 edge.
Bernard Robert earned the win to improve to 3-1, going 6.1 innings and scattering two runs on six hits with a walk and five strikeouts. He had a perfect game through 4.2 innings before issuing a walk to Ryan Peisel followed by a single to designated hitter Matt Robbins (2-for-4). McDaniel got the loss to fall to 2-1, allowing three runs on two hits in 2.2 innings with three walks and four wild pitches. McDaniel was off to a good start this season as he entered Saturday with an 0.87 ERA and had just two walks and no wild pitches in 10.1 innings on the year.
