Thirty riders from the Georgia equestrian team will travel west to face Fresno State University on Feb. 11, in a dual meet featuring two seeds of competitors in both the English and Western disciplines.
"It's really a blast that we get to take so many girls across the country," Georgia assistant coach Jennifer Newman said.
The Bulldogs' English riders are preparing for a particularly challenging course in equitation on the flat, while both English and Western athletes had to battle inclement weather early in the week that forced Georgia's coaches to get creative with the squad's practice schedule.
"We will have some difficult practices this week, but we will certainly not over-practice because we don't want the course to lose its flow and and elegance," Newman said.
Georgia Western Coach Carla Wennberg believes her girls are ready to go after their third place finish at the Big Eight Western Tournament in January.
"The riders come back mentally stronger from every competition," Wennberg said. "They are mentally more in tune with what they have to do and prepare for. We have some new girls that are coming on really strong."
Georgia is 1-0 in dual meet competition against Fresno State after defeating them 901-802 in Fresno on March 12, 2005.
