Georgia Softball Splits Doubleheader In Miami

MIAMI, Fla. --- The No. 10-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (1-1) opened their season on Friday with a doubleheader split in first round action of the Diamond Fun and Sun Classic at Florida International University. The Bulldogs earned a 7-6 game one win over the Arkansas Lady Razorbacks before dropping a 6-5 contest to the No. 19-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes.
Kelsey Todd's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning propelled the Bulldogs to the win over the Lady Razorbacks. The Hawkeyes scored the game-winning run on an interference call in the top of the sixth inning.
Kellie Middleton led all Georgia hitters with a .714 batting average after going 5-for-7 with three runs, two doubles, an RBI and two stolen bases. Megan McAllister also contributed three hits and four RBI.
Kasi Carroll (1-1) earned the game one win in relief for Georgia after scattering one run and two hits in four innings of work.
The Lady Razorbacks took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning of game one after Shana Easley tallied a two-out two-run home run to center field.
Georgia cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom half of the frame on McAllister's RBI single to center field.
The Bulldogs manufactured a run in the bottom of the second inning to tie the score at 2-2. Becky Mohl reached on a one-out walk and advanced to second on Victoria Sanders' two-out walk. Middleton loaded the bases after being hit-by-a-pitch. Mohl scored after Sojourner Moody was hit-by-a-pitch.
