Combo Forward from Louisiana Completes Early Signing Class

ATHENS ---- Jeremy Jacob, a 6-7, 210-pound forward from Baton Rouge, La., became Georgia’s fourth basketball signee of the fall when he signed a national letter-of-intent to attend UGA and play for the Bulldogs, head coach Dennis Felton announced Wednesday night.

Although Jacob is from Baton Rouge, he currently attends Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va. As a senior at Woodlawn High School last season, he averaged 14.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game, leading his team to the Louisiana state 5A championship game. After the season he was named to the 1st team All-State squad by the Louisiana Sportswriters Association, and Scout.com, a web-based recruiting service, included him among its top 100 prospects nationally.

“Jeremy is going to add a new dimension to our team next year,” Felton said. “He is a combo forward who has an uncanny knack for scoring. I also like his aggressiveness and the way he displays toughness and a pursuit of the ball in rebounding.

“Jeremy will benefit from a very challenging year of high-level basketball at Hargrave. His coach, Kevin Keatts, has coached on the college level and has developed many college players there at Hargrave. This kind of experience will take Jeremy a long way in his progress this year.”

Without having yet played at Hargrave, Jacob is listed by Rivals.com, another Internet-based recruiting service, as the 79th-best prospect in the country, the 22nd-best small forward.

Jacob joins three Georgians who signed with the Bulldogs earlier in the day: Chris Barnes, a 6-8 forward from College Park; Jeremy Price, a 6-9 forward from Decatur; and Zac Swansey, a 6-1 guard from Dunwoody.

“We are excited and happy about this group of student-athletes joining our Georgia Basketball family,” Felton said. “As we build our basketball program, it is imperative that we continue to bring in high-quality people, and this is a terrific group. With help from our veteran players, this class has the opportunity to make a profound impact on our team next season.”
