Statement From Vince Dooley On The Passing Of Bo Schembechler
November 17, 2006 | General
"It was quite a shock, especially considering I was on a Masters Coaches Survey conference call with Bo just yesterday, and he was in great competitive spirit talking about the Michigan-Ohio State game."
"We've been friends for many years and have been together on numerous occasions at coaching clinics and on the football rules committee. The most memorable time was the two weeks we spent together lecturing to Air Force bases in Europe during the early 1970s. He used to call me 'Dooley of Georgia' in his tough yankee accent, and I would call him 'Schembechler of Michigan' with my southern drawl."
"Bo was a great fundamental football coach, and his teams were always tough and very disciplined. He personally gave that tough outward appearance, but he had a soft spirit and a great sense of humor. All of us in the coaching profession will miss him, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family."
