ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia softball head coach Lu Harris-Champer announced on Thursday the signing of six recruits to national letters of intent to attend the University of Georgia.

Jennie Auger
The Bulldogs signed outfielder/catcher Jennie Auger, infielder Alisa Goler, infielder Bri Hesson, pitcher Sarah McCloud, pitcher/outfielder Taylor Schlopy, and infielder Megan Wiggins.

“This is an exciting class of student athletes,” said Harris-Champer. “We are really looking forward to getting them on campus. We expect each of them to come in and contribute right away. These athletes love softball and love to compete. They will be fun to work with over the next few years and we are excited about watching them develop.”

Alisa Goler

Auger, from Poway, Calif., has garnered All-League, All-CIF, and All-North County League honors as a two-year starter in center field for Rancho Bernardo High School. Auger hit .408 as a junior in 2006 with three home runs, 10 doubles, 28 RBI and 13 stolen bases. Auger also excels academically, as she has earned Honor Roll accolades as well as the Silver Star Award for posting a grade point average of 4.0 or higher. She plays travel ball for the Ken Wimer’s San Diego Legacy.

“Jennie is an outstanding hitter with very quick hands,” Harris-Champer said. “She plays outfield and catcher, and has a very strong arm. Jennie has a great attitude and plays with a lot of heart.”

Goler, from Frankfort, Ill., is a two-time All-Area and All-Conference member at shortstop for Lincoln-Way East High School. A four-year starter, Goler led her high school team in batting average, on base percentage, and doubles the past two seasons en route to earning Second Team All-State honors in 2006. Goler is a member of the National and Spanish Honors Societies, as
Bri Hesson
well as being a four-year member of the Honor Roll. She plays travel ball for Gerry Glasco’s Southern Force.

“Alisa has a sweet swing from the left side of the plate,” said Harris-Champer. “She has the ability to make adjustments pitch-to-pitch. She plays infield and is clutch when the game is on the line.”

Sarah McCloud

Hesson, from Suwanee, Ga., is a three-time All-State selection for North Gwinnett High School. A four-year starter, Hesson hit .340 as a junior in 2006. She is also a three-year letterwinner in basketball. Hesson plays travel ball for Daniel Caldwell’s Georgia Elite Gold.

“Bri is a left-handed first basemen who hits from the right side of the plate,” Harris-Champer said. “She will bring power to our line up and strong leadership on defense.”

McCloud, from Celina, Tx., posted a 23-4 record with a 0.26 ERA and 358 strikeouts as a junior for Celina High School in 2006. McCloud earned First Team All-State and All-Area honors in 2006 after leading her school to its first appearance in the state tournament. She plays travel ball for Dan Adkins’ Texas Glory.

“Sarah is a very good pitcher with both speed and movement,” said Harris-Champer. “She is extremely good at working the black of the plate. She has great work ethic.”

Taylor Schlopy
Schlopy, from West Hills, Calif., is a three-time All-State selection for Oaks Christian High School. A three-time All-CIF and two-time Los Angeles Times All-Region team member, Schlopy batted .528 with 32 runs, 25 RBI, and 14 stolen bases as a senior. She was honored as the California State Freshman of the Year in 2004. Equally impressive in the classroom, Schlopy has been named to the Dean’s List and was a recipient of the Outstanding Scholar Award in 2006. She plays travel ball for Bruce Richardson’s So Cal Athletics.

Megan Wiggins

“Taylor is an athlete who can do it all,” Harris-Champer said. “She pitches, hits, and plays outfield. Taylor is a fierce competitor who brings her love of competition to every game.”

Wiggins, from Snellville, Ga., is the reigning Atlanta Journal Constitution Player of the Year after hitting .486 with seven home runs and 20 RBI, compiling a .986 slugging percentage. A four-time All-County honoree, Wiggins earned a selection to tryout for the Junior Olympic team. A three-sport standout, Wiggins earned second-place finishes in the 100 and 200-meter races, and the shot put at region. A four-event qualifier for state relays, Wiggins tallied first place region finishes as a member of the 4x100 and 4x400 team events. She plays travel ball for Jody Bailey’s Georgia Titans.

“Megan is a left handed hitter who can hit for power and average,” said Harris-Champer. “She has exceptional speed and will be able to steal bases and cover a lot of ground on defense.”
