Bulldogs Suffer A Loss To No. 18 Tennessee In Knoxville
October 08, 2006 | Volleyball
Knoxville, Tenn. --- The Georgia volleyball team fell to No. 18 Tennessee 3-0 (30-21, 30-27, 30-23) on Sunday afternoon as the Bulldogs’ weekend road trip came to an end.
Although Georgia (4-14, 0-8 Southeastern Conference) failed to collect its first conference win against the Lady Vols, head coach Steffi Legall was pleased with her team’s effort during the 18th match of the 2006 season.
“It will not show in the points, but our girls fought hard today,” said Georgia head coach Steffi Legall. “We did a good job blocking and played with heart out there. Tennessee was better than us, no question about it. Their outside hitters (Yuliya Stoyanova and Kelsey Fautsch) did a great job of leading their offense. But I did like how our players competed and competed hard the whole match.”
On offense, sophomore Maria Taylor paced the Bulldogs with 16 kills and freshman Josefine Ehmke and senior Simona Speed both each added six kills. Junior Chelsea Young, who for the third straight match played a significant role for Georgia, dished out 19 assists for the Bulldogs.
“It was nice adjustment to have that fire and drive to win out there today,” Legall said. “Now, we’re looking forward to returning home for next weekend’s matches.”
The Bulldogs host both of the SEC schools from the state of Mississippi in the coming week. Georgia is scheduled to face Mississippi State (11-7, 2-6) on Friday, Oct. 13, at 7 p.m. and the Bulldogs will square off against Ole Miss (11-7, 3-5) on Sunday, Oct. 15, at 2 p.m. at the Ramsey Center.
