Georgia Football Practice Notes: October 5, 2006
October 05, 2006 | Football
ATHENS, Ga. --- The 10th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs practiced for an hour and 45 minutes at the Woodruff practice fields during their final preparations
for their matchup with No. 13 Tennessee on Thursday afternoon.
Following the team's workout, Georgia head coach Mark Richt announced that junior kicker Brandon Coutu injured his kicking leg while trying a new
onside-kick technique during practice on Thursday. An MRI for Coutu was scheduled for later on Thursday evening.
"Brandon hurt his kicking leg somewhere during the first couple periods of practice today," Richt said. "We don't know how severe it is, but we know
it is severe enough to keep him out of at least this week's game. Andy Bailey will now be kicking our extra points and field goals against
Tennessee."
Richt also expanded on what he thought inserting Bailey, who is a junior from Athens, Tenn., in the lineup would mean to the Bulldogs.
"The bad news is that Coutu is injured and will be out of the game, but the good news is that Andy Bailey is kicking beautifully," Richt said. "He got
all of the work today after Brandon was injured and I think his range is about what Brandon's range is. Ben Wilson is also available, but we feel
very confident in Andy's ability to get the job done for us in our kicking game."
The kick-off return team was also the focus after Thursday's practice since the Bulldogs are ranked second in the Southeastern Conference and 19th
nationally through their first five games. Junior Thomas Brown led the way for the Bulldogs by having a 46-yard return during their 14-9 win over Ole
Miss on Sept. 30.
"We are getting better each game and I think we're about 100 spots betterthan last year," Richt said. "I watch practice every day and I am now
seeing Coach (Tony) Ball's plan for the kick-off return team coming along. They look very organized and prepared right now."
Kickoff for Saturday¹s game is scheduled for 7:52 p.m. ET, and ESPN will provide a national telecast. All Georgia games are broadcast live on the
Bulldog Radio Network on AM 750 WSB in Atlanta and on both 106.1 FM and 960 The Ref in Athens. Audio coverage can be followed on georgiadogs.com, the
