Georgia Football Practice Notes: October 16th, 2006

ATHENS, Ga. --– The Georgia football team, seeking to snap a two-game losing streak, began preparations for this week's game by practicing for 90 minutes at the Woodruff Practice Fields on Monday.
Georgia (5-2 overall, 2-2 SEC) will entertain Mississippi State (2-5, 0-3) on Saturday at Sanford Stadium in a 1 p.m. contest. Georgia is coming off a 24-22 loss to Vanderbilt. Mississippi State defeated Jacksonville State in its last game and has lost in the conference to South Carolina, Auburn and LSU.
"I thought our spirits were good today," Georgia coach Mark Richt said. "I saw a lot of focus and enthusiasm and energy. We're all working hard to get back on track."
Richt announced that freshman Matthew Stafford will start at quarterback in place of senior Joe Tereshinski against Mississippi State. Stafford has started twice this year and is the only Georgia quarterback to see action in all seven games.
"When Joe T. heard the news, he was disappointed," Richt said, "but after a couple of minutes, he asked Coach (Mike) Bobo, 'Is there someplace else I can play to help us win? Is there anything I can do for the team?' That was pretty inspiring. He inspires me."
Richt said Tereshinski and the rest of the senior class will serve as game captains on Saturday.
Georgia will play Saturday at home against Mississippi State. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the game will not be televised. All Georgia games are broadcast live on the Bulldog Radio Network on AM 750 WSB in Atlanta and both 106.1 FM and 960 The Ref in Athens.
