GEORGIA COACH/PLAYER QUOTES
Head Coach Mark Richt:
“The bottom line is they played better than us. They made the plays when they needed to. Vanderbilt is a good football team. They’ve been knocking at the door and finally knocked it in on us. To be quite frank they played a good game.”
“We got a lot of guys banged up especially up front. That is scary because we have little depth there.”
“We had opportunities to score down there (red zone), and we didn’t get it done. We just didn’t run the ball well enough to get it in there.”
“There were a lot of turning points in the game, ultimately when we went up 10-0 then let them return it to the 50 yard line. The red zone defense was not able to force them into field goal opportunities instead of touchdowns. When we had opportunities to score six we ended up with three.”
“It’s hard to gauge (how the defense played). They scored a touchdown which helped gain some momentum. There were times when we needed stops though and didn’t get them.”
“We’ll go back to the drawing board and make sure we go with the very best people in position to get the job done.”
Senior Offensive Lineman Daniel Inman:
“I didn’t think our problem today was a lack of focus. Sometimes games just don’t swing your way. Now we have to regroup and talk about our goals. And we know this team can pull it together. The tradition is here and this team has the potential to bring it together.”
Freshman Quarterback Matthew Stafford:
“We have to work hard and stick together after this. We know we can do it the rest of the season. We have a lot of confidence in this team. The team learned that any team can beat you on any given week and that you have to come prepared for anything.”
Redshirt Sophomore Cornerback Paul Oliver:
“You have to give Vanderbilt credit because they converted a lot of third downs and got some big gains out there today. But this game hurts. We still have a lot of the season left and if we win out, we’ll still go 10-2.”
Senior Linebacker Tony Taylor:
“Bright, who is one of their best players, had already run that route a couple of times and I saw the QB looking at him and just overplayed the ball. I thought that would be the spark for us today, but we could not close the deal.”
VANDERBILT COACH/PLAYER QUOTES
Head Coach Bobby Johnson:
“Every week it seems like it comes down to someone making the plays and today we made those plays. We overcame some adversities today and won the game. You have got to battle back from mistakes and we did that today. We have got to get back to Nashville and prepare for South Carolina next week, but we will enjoy this win today. Georgia is one of the premier teams in the SEC East.”
“We have a lot of confidence in Bryant Hahnfeldt, he worked very hard this week. We feel like we are a better team but when we don’t get it done you begin to question yourself.”
Kicker Bryant Hahnfeldt:
“This is a huge win for us especially going on the road in the SEC and picking up a win. Georgia is a top-15 team and to win at their homecoming is big for us and for the program.”
“I was a little nervous but not too much. In my mind it was just another field goal, the time on the clock doesn’t matter too much because a kick is a kick. I worked hard this week, going out and trusting my leg in practice and I came out today and did that.”
Quarterback Chris Nickson:
“Today’s game was a huge win for us. Any time you do something like this it makes a statement, whether you want to or not. We have to continue to play Vanderbilt football and good things will happen to us.”
“We just wanted to move the football. If we didn’t score a touchdown we wanted to give Bryant a good chance of making the field goal. I have seen him make that kick in practice a lot and I knew he could make it. It was a perfect kick and a perfect hold.”
