ATHENS, Ga. ---- The Georgia volleyball team knocked off Clemson in a 3-0 decision on Wednesday night at the Ramsey Center.  For the Bulldogs (4-1) it was the first time to defeat the Tigers in back-to-back seasons since 1997 after winning 3-2 in Clemson a year ago.

Clemson (2-2) out-hit Georgia by .116 points in game one, but five service errors and three more receiving errors helped the Bulldogs to a 30-28 win.  The Tigers finished the match with an overall hitting percentage that was higher than Georgia's (.224-.215), but the Bulldogs finished with four more service aces and six fewer service errors.  Georgia squeaked by in games two and three 31-29.  Both teams had four players with double digits in the digs column.

Georgia welcomed back senior Meagan Welch to the lineup, who missed the first four matches of the season with an ankle injury.  Welch finished the mach with four kills and 14 digs.

"To beat a rival like Clemson in three really close games shows that we are maturing in our competitiveness," said head coach Steffi Legall.  "They challenged us to the very end.

"We're distributing the ball well right now, and Chelsea (Young) is doing a good job of that.  I trust our hitters to put the ball away.  But again it was the defensive effort that made the difference tonight.  I keep saying that, but each match someone makes a play for us at the right time.  Simona (Speed) had some amazing plays tonight and Brooke (Burlingame) and Meagan played great on defense," Legall said.
