South Carolina Press Conference

On South Carolina's defense:
"We've looked at the tape of this last game. Usually, you can look at tape and see how a team lines up and pretty much know what they like to do. But with this defense, you spend an awful lot of time just trying to figure out who's lining up where and why. And then our goal is to try and make it make sense to the players. Their heads could be spinning unless we tell them how and why and give them some peace."

On the South Carolina series:
"There are key games for everybody early on that set the tone, the tempo and the confidence level for a team. This game has been that one for us in recent history. The winner goes to a New Year's Day bowl, the loser doesn't. When we've won this game, we've finished with 10 wins; when we've lost, we've finished with eight wins. When you win a game like this, it helps you take off."

On South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier:
"I really enjoy watching his offensive teams play. When I was at FSU, I was always very interested in what he was doing. I admire what he does. Let's face it, the guy has had unbelievable success. The SEC has forever changed because of him."

On what the final score could be:
"Victories are very precious in the SEC. I promise I'm not fibbing a bit, I would be thrilled with a 1-point win, even if it was 3-2. I could swallow that, even with all the red zone questions I would get."

On tight end Martrez Milner:
"I've been saying a lot that he's a very talented player. He's big, he's fast and he blocked well. This camp, he was more serious than I've ever seen him. He's been doing the things it takes to get over the hump."

On Sean Bailey and the receivers:
"The receivers got after it and played hard. They were going full speed to get to their blocking assignments, and I liked their attitude and their focus. There were very few missed assignments. Sean is the No. 1 receiver right now at Georgia. He's always been a smooth route-running guy, but he's stronger and he blocks with more of an attitude. From a knowledge point of view, he rarely makes a mistake."

Player Quotes from Tuesday's Press Conference (9/6)

Martrez Milner (tight end)
On whether or not he considers himself a receiver sometimes in Coach Mark Richt's offense - "We want to be sometimes because we want the ball, but if Coach wants us to be a tight end and get the blocking done, then we'll do that too."

On what a Georgia football player goes through after scoring his first career touchdown - "Basically it's just my teammates saying, `Trez this' and `Trez that' but I know how to handle it so it hasn't been too bad. And my family members called my cell phone to tell me congratulations and good job after the game."

Greg Blue (safety)
On what he recalls about Steve Spurrier's offense at Florida - "They used to score 60 points a game, blow people out and just wouldn't let up on anybody. Spurrier likes to throw the ball, he likes to air it out, but he's not going to be on the field. Their players are going to be on the field and that's what I've been trying to focus on."

Thomas Brown (tailback)
On what D.J. Shockley did from the spring to August to get prepared to play this fall - "I think it had to do with him being more confident and relaxing a little more back there and trusting his receivers. His receivers stepped up as well which made it a little easier on him this past Saturday."

On what kind of challenge the South Carolina defense presents - "They've got kind of a tricky defense - they move a lot of people around and come at you with a bunch of different sets. I think if we get a couple good runs on them then we can have the opportunity to break some long ones."

Tim Jennings (cornerback)
On his hopes against South Carolina - "I'm looking to have a better game against them than I did last year and my main focus for our team is to come out on top since everyone knows this is my senior year and I've never lost to South Carolina. I think it would also add a little more credibility to our team to beat Coach Spurrier and to beat South Carolina at the same time."

Quentin Moses (defensive end)
On how critical it is to cause turnovers and take advantage of turnovers as he and his teammates did against Boise State - "Coach (Richt) emphasizes it all the time that the team with the most turnovers is usually the team that loses and the team that takes advantage of those turnovers is usually the team that wins. I'm just glad we were able to go out and actually execute all the things we had been working on all summer."

On trying to set the tone early against South Carolina - "They really didn't show many turnover weaknesses in their game last week so we have to go out there and make those plays, do the little things like stripping the ball, putting pressure on the quarterback and getting interceptions. As long as we do that, we should be all right."

D.J. Shockley (quarterback)
On his anxiety level in his first career start against Boise State - "To say I wasn't nervous wouldn't be accurate because I was extremely nervous right when the game started. But after I saw Thomas (Brown) run right, run left and get some yards and we started moving the ball, that kind of eased my nerves."

On what was the key to Georgia's success on offense against Boise State - "I think the biggest thing was our offensive line - everybody knew how great our offense line was and they gave me all day to throw. But also showing people that we have playmakers on the outside, since there were a lot of question marks out there, I think we showed everybody that we can move the ball and score points on a good defense."
