Maria Taylor, a freshman from Alpharetta, Georgia, has made an immediate impact as an outside hitter for the Lady Dogs volleyball team. She has participated in each of Georgia's matches this season and is third on the team in kills per game. Last week, Maria garnered SEC Freshman of the Week honors for her play against Georgia Southern when she registered 17 kills and followed that with 18 in the win over Grambling. Her 18 kills against Grambling went along with a .739 hitting percentage and a career-high five digs.

Q&A with Maria Taylor

Q: How does it feel to earn SEC honors at this point in your career?

Taylor: "More than anything the award is a confidence booster. It gives me the courage to work hard in practice and apply what I learn in the matches."

Q: Did you expect to see this kind of playing time so early?

Taylor: "I wasn't expecting to see as much, but the coaches are allowing me to make the mistakes and learn from them so I can become a better player."

Q: What kinds of things do you enjoy doing when you're not on the court?

Taylor:"Hanging out with my roommate Anjelica (Partridge). I didn't know her all that well before I got here, but she is one of the funniest people I know."

Q: How has college life treated you so far?

Taylor: "Great! We have the best dorms, food, and transportation among other things. I am really enjoying it."

Q: What has been the biggest change?

Taylor: "Not having my mom here all the time. She comes to all of my home games, but it doesn't feel like enough."
