ATHENS-- Head Football Coach Mark Richt announced after practice Tuesday that junior guard Bartley Miller has decided to end his playing career at Georgia after battling shoulder problems for three years.

Miller, an Atlanta, Ga., native and product of The Marist School, filled a backup role at guard during Georgia¹s 2002 SEC Championship season. He started the first nine games of the 2003 season before shoulder and ankle injuries forced him to miss the final stretch of that year. He missed all of 2004 after shoulder surgery, but participated in spring drills.

"His shoulders have just not responded," said Richt. "Both of them have been significantly bothering him. But he's going to stay with us and will be a field coach. He'll help us set up the defensive line on the scout team, which is something we need, and will still be a big part of this team."
