ATHENS, Ga. -- Georgia sophomore libero Brooke Burlingame was named the SEC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week by the league office on Monday.

Burlingame notched 14 digs in each of Georgia's weekend matches with Charlotte and Middle Tennessee and added four service aces, including a match-high three against the 49ers.

"Brooke has been such a stabilizing part of our back court," said Georgia head coach Steffi Legall. "I'm thrilled for her to have this recognition by the league for what I hope is the first of many defensive player of the week honors. You can never underestimate the importance of a good libero, and she's developed into that for us."

The New Orleans, La., native tied for second on the team last year with 2.86 digs per game. She played in 103 games as a freshman and reached double digits in digs 15 times.

Burlingame and the Bulldogs (1-1) host Georgia Southern on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Grambling on Friday at 7 p.m. at the UGA Ramsey Center.
