Athens, Ga. --- Georgia's Tasha Humphrey, a 6-3, sophomore forward from Gainesville, Ga., was included among the top-25 pre-season candidates for the State Farm Wade Trophy. The list was released Wednesday by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, which administers the National Player of the Year award.

Last week, Humphrey was among 30 players named to the pre-season watch list for the Women's Wooden Award.

"The 2005-2006 State Farm Wade Trophy pre-season list is an example of the top-notch athletes that contribute to making each collegiate basketball game an exciting new experience," said Jeanne Lenti Ponsetto, Chair of the State Farm Wade Trophy Committee and Director of Athletics at DePaul University. "These 25 student-athletes represent the most outstanding players on and off the court and we look forward to another outstanding year of women's basketball."

The list was comprised after early balloting of the Wade Trophy's national awards committee which consists of leading basketball coaches, journalists and basketball administrators. The NCAA Division I 25 student-athletes were selected based on the following criteria: game and season statistics, leadership, character, effect on their team and overall playing ability.

Humphrey was co-National Freshman of the Year last season after finishing as the only player ranked among the SEC's top-10 individual leaders in scoring (third), rebounding (fifth), field goal percentage (third) and free throw percentage (ninth).

Humphrey enjoyed a remarkable initial campaign at Georgia last winter when she led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring (19.0 ppg), rebounds (8.4 rpg), blocks (1.1 bpg) and field goal percentage (56.1 pct.).

In addition to being named co-National Freshman of the Year by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association, Humphrey also was voted the SEC Freshman of the Year by both league coaches and media and was one of only two unanimous first-team All-SEC picks in separate voting of coaches and media. During the post-season, she was selected to the All-SEC Tournament and All-Chattanooga NCAA Regional teams.
