ATHENS, Ga. - The second-ranked Georgia men's golf team grabbed the top seed in the field for the NCAA East Regional, according to an announcement by the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Committee on Monday.
The Bulldogs will be joined by 26 additional teams at the Golf Club of Tennessee in Nashville for the East Regional May 19-21. Two additional regionals will be held at Notre Dame and Stanford. From each regional, 10 teams and two individuals not on advancing teams will move onto the NCAA Championships June 1-4 at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md.
"This is a very exciting time of the season," Georgia coach Chris Haack said. "Our ultimate goal is to win the national championship, and we feel like we have a team that can challenge for the title. But we have to go into the regional focused and ready to take care of business there so we can have that chance."
Joining the Bulldogs at the East Regional will be No. 3 Georgia Tech, No. 7 Florida, No. 10 Duke, No. 13 Tennessee, No. 15 Georgia Southern and No. 16 Wake Forest from the top 20. The rest of the field is made up of Alabama, Clemson, Georgia State, Coastal Carolina, East Tennessee State, Indiana, Central Florida, North Carolina, Louisville, Virginia, Vanderbilt, Charlotte, Penn State, North Carolina-Wilmington, Towson, Rhode Island, Rutgers, Maryland, Army and Boston College.
Before playing in the East Regional, the Bulldogs will participate in The Maxwell in Ardmore, Okla., on Saturday and Sunday. Georgia coach Chris Haack will use a lineup of senior David Denham, juniors Kevin Kisner and Richard Scott, and sophomores Chris Kirk and Brendon Todd. Denham, Kirk and Todd recently were named to the All-SEC Team by the conference coaches.
