ATHENS, Ga. ---- Georgia head volleyball coach Steffi Legall announced Wednesday that Nicole McCray has been named an assistant coach for the Bulldogs.
McCray joins Legall and third-year assistant Jen McGurn to complete Georgia's staff.
"I'm excited that Nicole will join our staff," said Legall. "She has won SEC Championships and been to the Final Four as a player at Florida and there's not a better role model for our players than someone who's been in those situations. She will bring great energy to our team."
McCray's responsibilities will include training Georgia's middle blockers, coordinating team travel and equipment, tape exchanges and working with the program's summer camps.
Legall also announced that McGurn has been promoted to the position of recruiting coordinator. McGurn will also continue with her on-court duties, which include coaching Georgia's setters.
"I'm thrilled to keep Jen on staff. She will continue to work with our setters, and to have her more involved with our recruiting will be great for the future of this team. This is a young staff and we want to move this program to new heights," Legall said.
A former University of Florida All-America middle blocker, McCray comes to Georgia from Berry College in Rome, Ga., where she was the head coach of the Lady Vikings last season, leading the team to a 22-17 overall record.
Prior to her stint at Berry, McCray served as an assistant coach at P.K. Yonge High School in Gainesville, Fla.
Prior to that experience, McCray played professionally in Puerto Rico's Superior League for the Conquistadoras de Guaynabo, based in San Juan.
The Longview, Texas, native helped lead Florida to the 2002 NCAA Final Four as a senior and was a member of five straight Southeastern Conference championships, including her redshirt year as a freshman.
McCray was named a second-team All-American in 2002 and she also earned honorable mention All-America honors as a sophomore and junior. McCray was the Player of the Year in the Southeastern Conference in 2000 and was a four-time All-SEC selection.
