ATHENS, Ga. -- Three more athletes have signed on to join Georgia's Track and Field program in 2005.
Thrower Josipa Jelicic comes from the farthest distance as a native of Zagreb, Croatia. She was fourth in women's discus at the World Youth games in Sherbrooke, Canada in 2003. She also threw at the 2003 European Junior Championships in Tampere, Finland. She boasts a PR 163-0 in discus.
"Josipa will make our throwing corps stronger because she is a discus thrower who should score high in the SEC and have a chance to score at the NCAA meet," head coach Wayne Norton said. "The discus is the throwing event in which we need to improve most of the four disciplines."
Kevin Dickson is a sprinter and jumper from Tualatin High School in Tualatin, Ore. He was runner-up in the Oregon 4A State long jump, and he also scored in three other events in the meet (100 meters, 4x100 meter relay, high jump). His personal best of 24-6 in long jump ranks him as the No. 5 long jumper in the nation according to dyestat.com.
"Kevin is a combination sprinter and jumper who will be able to help us in both event areas," Norton said. "Sprint coach Jon Stuart and I think he will benefit from being in the warmer Georgia climate. We like his athletic and academic credentials."
Finally, Michael Proctor hails from Jonesboro, Ga., and was the 2005 Clayton County Champion in three events - 400 meters, 300-meter hurdles and 4x400 meter relay. He is currently ranked second in the state with a 400 meter time of 47.91.
"Proctor has had a good spring season in the 400 meters and hurdles," Norton said. "He will be a good addition to the team because we expect him to contribute quite a bit in the hurdles and both relays."
