AUBURN, Ala. ---- A group of four Georgia gymnasts competed in the NCAA Individual Finals on Saturday at Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum to conclude the 2005 season.
Sophomore Kelsey Ericksen, senior Michelle Emmons, freshman Katie Heenan and junior Brittany Smith were all in action for the SEC and NCAA champs.
Ashley Kupets qualified to compete in the floor exercise, but scratched due to a sore Achilles.
The five gymnasts Georgia qualified to compete on Saturday led all teams.
"I think having the last two days and coming into today was toughest on Katie," said head coach Suzanne Yoculan. "Kelsey was more crisp. Kelsey even added some difficulty to the middle of her floor routine tonight. But today is for the kids."
Ericksen was Georgia's top finisher with a second-place showing on the uneven bars at 9.925. Alabama's Terin Humphry won the event with a 9.9375. Heenan placed 13th with a 9.3250.
Heenan and Smith finished in seventh and ninth place, respectively, on the vault with scores of 9.7563 and 9.6563.
UCLA's Kristen Maloney won both the vault and balance beam.
On floor, Ericksen and Emmons tied for fifth with a pair of 9.875s. UNC's Courtney Bumpers earned the win with a 10.0.
Earlier in the day, Georgia was honored with 17 All-America awards at the annual NCAA Awards Banquet. That number led all teams and was the most by a Georgia team since 1999.
