Georgia Equestrian Beats Out Berry College
November 09, 2005 | Equestrian
ROME, Ga. -- The Georgia Equestrian team dominated Berry College on the road by sweeping all four events for a total margin of 2236.5-2229.5 on Saturday in Rome, Ga.
"I am very pleased with our riders preparation and focus in the ring," Georgia head coach Meghan Boenig said. "I saw a lot of improvement in a lot of areas."
The Bulldogs won the Western events 640.5-622.5. In English the Georgia riders posted victories of 765-720 in equitation over fences and 931-887 in equitation on the flat. "We were very consistent," Boenig said. "We saw more diversity in tests and horses than we are used to and we rode without spurs. It was neat to have all that diversity and still step it up."
Senior team captain Carly Veldman, Georgia's most versatile Western rider, competed in equitation over fences for the first time in her career and came through with a spectacular ride despite having a tough draw. Georgia will take the ring again to host Auburn on Nov. 11.
