Los Angeles, Calif. --- UCLA utilized a decisive run late in the first half and maintained that advantage throughout the second staza en route to an 84-64 victory over No. 11-ranked Georgia in the first round of the LMU/Ayres Hotel Thanksgiving Classic here on Friday night.
"There's no single thing that's most disappointing but there are certainly a lot of things that were disappointing," head coach Andy Landers said. "First of all we didn't 'bring it' tonight and then we didn't respond to anything. Our basketball team simply did not respond to the challenge.
"From there, you can go to the box score," Landers continued. "Our guards were 15-of-44 from the field with many reasonably good shots. We only got to the line eight times while we put them there 23 times. We had 19 turnovers and 14 of those were from our senior guards (Sherill Baker and Alexis Kendrick). We had a starter (Cori Chambers) foul out in 15 minutes. All the fouls were due to the fact that we were standing around or out of position on defense."
The Bruins, who entered the game at 0-2 after being upset by BYU at home on Tuesday night, were sharp throughout the contest. Lisa Willis poured in 27 points as all five UCLA starters reached double figures.
Georgia fell to 2-2 with the loss. Sherill Baker scored 16 points to lead Georgia, while Tasha Humphrey and Megan Darrah chipped in 13 and 12, respectively.
