ATHENS, Ga. --- Hudson Swafford, who recently made junior golf history at a tournament in Athens, has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Georgia men's golf team.
"We're very excited to have Hudson join our program," Georgia coach Chris Haack said. "He has excellent golf skills and he will be a welcome addition to our team. We look for a lot of great things out of him during his four years with us."
A native of Tallahassee, Fla., who attends Maclay School, Swafford won the UGA-AutoTrader.com Junior Invitational at the University of Georgia Golf Course last month for the third straight time. In the 11 years of the Southern Junior Golf Tour's existence, no player had ever won an SJGT event more than twice. He shot 2-under 70 five times and added a 7-under 65 at this year's event in winning the tournaments. In addition, Swafford won the 14-15 age division of the UGA-AutoTrader.com Invitational in 2002. Swafford boasts seven career wins on the Southern Junior Golf Tour and 13 top-10 finishes.
Swafford was chosen as a Second-Team All-American by the America Junior Golf Association in 2004, a list that also included current Bulldogs Brian Harman, Michael Green and Adam Mitchell. Swafford won the 2004 Mooney Rome Classic and was sixth at the PING Junior at Mirasol. This season, Swafford was second at the Ringgold Telephone Company Classic, fourth at the Mizuno Junior and 11th at the Thunderbird International. Swafford also won the Future Masters in Dothan, Ala., in 2004.
