Amy Krahn, a middle blocker from Winnipeg, Manatoba, Canada, was one of Georgia's top offensive options last year and has continued to improve her game during the 2005 season. Most recently, she logged two blocks and a kill in Georgia's tough SEC matchup against Arkansas. Following that match she sat down for a quick interview.
Q: What things have you learned in the past year that have led to your personal advancement?
Krahn: "I have learned to be patient. During my redshirt year, I had the time to adjust to everything."
Q: I saw you working with Coach McCray one-on-one before the game. Is there anything in particular you are focusing on?
Krahn: "My blocking and overall speed."
Q: Will you tell me about moving to the University all the way from Canada?
Krahn: "Well, my decision to come was a last-minute one. I was in the last month of high school when I made my visit. The southern atmosphere is different. The people are polite."
Q: What factors led to your decision to come to UGA?
Krahn: "We have a good program and I like the coaching staff. I was also interested in UGA's Metalwork program since I enjoy creating jewelry."
Chelsea Young, a sophomore setter for the Bulldogs, has performed well during the 2005 season. Her career-high 69 assists against Ole Miss are an SEC high this season and UGA's current hitting percentage is its second highest since 2001 thanks in part to her consistent setting.
Q: You have had a good year up to this point and are ranked seventh in the SEC with 10.26 assists per game. How have you been able to improve your game to get to this level?
Young: "I have to give credit to the passers. Without them I wouldn't have been able to get to this point. The hitters are also consistent in getting kills even if the sets aren't perfect."
