BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. --- The University of Georgia equestrian team (3-0) edged South Carolina 1202-1184.75 during a match in Blythewood, S.C., on Friday afternoon. Georgia outdid the Gamecocks in both the English events (Flat, Fences), while South Carolina came out on top in the Western competition (Horsemanship, Reining).

In the English competition, Georgia beat South Carolina 306-282.75, while the visiting squad edged the Gamecocks 294-292 in Fences. In the Western competition, South Carolina grabbed a 297.5-297 win in Horsemanship and won 312.5-305 in the Reining portion.

Following the match, both Georgia coaches were impressed with their riders.

"Our English riders are really starting to get consistent and I'm excited that is happening this early," said Meghan Boenig, Georgia's head coach. "South Carolina put on a great horseshow and our riders did a fantastic job out there."

Carla Wennberg, Georgia's assistant coach, was also pleased with Georgia's showing.

"On the Western side, I would not have our riders ride any differently," said Wennberg.

Georgia travels to Rome to challenge Berry College on Saturday, Nov. 5.
