BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- Despite shooting the lowest score of the third round, the top-ranked Georgia men's golf team finished second on Tuesday at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate.

Playing the Old Overton Club's par-71 layout, the Bulldogs posted a final-round 11-under 273 to give them a three-round total of 18-under 834. However, Georgia Tech was able to hang on for a six-shot edge over the Bulldogs at 828, including a 276 on Tuesday.

"We gave it a run, and I'm proud of the guys for that," Georgia coach Chris Haack said. "We were nine shots back heading into the last round, but our players never gave up. They were focused on what they needed to do, and they played well enough to put in position to be in the hunt."

The Bulldogs placed four players in the top 14, including three in the top nine. Junior Chris Kirk led the Bulldogs at 7-under 206, including a 3-under 68 on Tuesday. Kirk finished tied for second, seven shots behind medalist Garrett Osborn of UAB.

Senior Kevin Kisner (68 on Tuesday) and freshman Brian Harman (67) each finished tied for ninth at 4-under 209, while freshman Michael Green (70) wound up tied for 14th at 1-under 212. Senior Richard Scott, who closed with a 73, was tied for 36th at 3-over 216.

The Bulldogs will return to action Oct. 23-25 at the Isleworth Invitational in Orlando, Fla. Georgia won the inaugural event in 2004.
