ATHENS, Ga. -- The Georgia Lady Dogs kicked off the New Year with a 68-52 win against Tennessee-Martin Sunday afternoon at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens. Georgia recorded its sixth straight victory as four Lady Dogs scored in double figures.

In the first-ever meeting between these two programs, Georgia turned 15 Skyhawk turnovers into 21 points in the first half to take a 34-19 lead at intermission. Tennessee-Martin did a much better job handling the Georgia pressure in the second frame, committing just seven turnovers that led to only two Lady Dog points. Georgia held its biggest lead at 60-36 with just more than six minutes remaining in the game, before the Skyhawks hit four three-pointers down the stretch for the 68-52 final score.

"We came out and played flat," said Georgia head coach Andy Landers. "We did not play very well defensively, and we also could not shoot the ball. Good shooters need to shoot well, and we did not do that today."

"We started slow in the first half, but I think we were able to do a much better job in the second half," said Tennessee-Martin head coach Tara Tansil. "Georgia applied a lot of pressure early in the game, and we had a lot of unforced turnovers. I thought we did a much better job maintaining possession in the second half."

Sophomore Cori Chambers led Georgia with 13 points, while junior Sherril Baker chipped in 12 points and four steals. Junior Alexis Kendrick added 11 points and four assists, and freshman Tasha Humphrey scored in double figures for the seventh straight game with 10 against the Skyhawks. Humphrey pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

"I think Alexis Kendrick played well again, and Cori (Chambers) played well," added Landers. "Alexis was probably our best player today."

Tennessee-Martin's Danielle Page scored 12 points in 39 minutes of action, while Andreika Jackson added 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Chandra Carey also scored in double figures with 11 points on five-of-eight shooting from the floor.

Georgia will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 6, as the Lady Dogs host SEC foe Ole Miss at 7 p.m. in Athens.
