Athens --- Former Georgia Lady Bulldog Kelly Miller was named the WNBA's co-Most Improved Player by the league office on Monday. Miller, who plays for the Indiana Fever, and Wendy Palmer of the Connecticut Sun both received nine of 48 votes to tie for the honor.
Miller -- and her twin sister Coco -- made professional basketball history in earning the honor. Coco, who plays for the Washington Mystics, claimed the league's Most Improved Player recognition in 2002. This is the first time in WNBA or NBA history that siblings have both won major awards.
Kelly Miller made the most of her off-season trade from Charlotte to Indiana by posting career highs in points (10.2), rebounds (3.2), assists (3.1), steals (1.09), blocked shots (0.15) and free-throw percentage (87.7). She finished the season ranked third in the league in free-throw percentage, eighth in three-point field goal percentage and 16th in assists.
Kelly Miller started a school-record 131 games of her collegiate career at Georgia between 1997-2001, helping the Lady Bulldogs compile a 103-28 record en route to reaching the 1999 Final Four and winning both the 2000 SEC Championship and the 2001 SEC Tournament. She was named National Player of the Year in 2000, was a three-time Kodak All-American, was tabbed SEC Player of the Year in both 2000 and 2001 and was a four-time first-team All-SEC selection. Among Lady Bulldog career statistical leaders, she ranks No. 3 in points (2,177); No. 2 in assists (639), three-pointers attempted (463) and free throws made (428); No. 3 in three-pointers made (187) and field goals attempted (1725); No. 4 in steals (285); and No. 5 in both field goals made (781) and free throws attempted (519).
