Athens, Ga. -- With one win under the saddle, the 2004-05 Georgia equestrian team (1-0) is preparing for its second straight weekend of competition, featuring a double-header with SEC-foe South Carolina at the Animal Science Arena on South Milledge Avenue.
On Friday, top riders from both teams will square off at 5 p.m. in a dual meet following proposed NCAA rules and format. Then at 10 a.m. on Saturday, second seed riders from each team will have an opportunity to compete in a scrimmage using the same tests and format as Friday's meet.
"This is going to be one of our really good tests," Georgia head coach Meghan Boenig said. "It's going to be no different than the Georgia-USC football game."
The Bulldogs faced South Carolina four times last year, defeating them twice in the regular season. The first win was a solid 1072-1053 victory at home, followed by a much narrower 1114.5-1108 escape on the road in South Carolina. Georgia also finished ahead of the Gamecocks in the Varsity Equestrian Championships and on their way to a second place finish at the Southern Equestrian Championships, which equates to competition for the SEC title.
